About Woodside (ASX:WDS)

Woodside Energy Group Ltd is an ASX-listed oil and gas company headquartered in Perth. It produces liquefied natural gas, pipeline gas, condensate and crude oil, with operations centred on the North West Shelf and Pluto in Western Australia and international assets including Sangomar in Senegal and interests in the United States Gulf of Mexico. The company reports in US dollars and its shares are also listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Woodside (ASX:WDS) held its Capital Markets Day in Sydney to set a new capital framework and distribution policy and to target a portfolio return on average capital employed of 12-15% by the mid-2030s.

The distribution policy is 20 to 40% of adjusted operating cash flows: 20% prioritised as a base dividend, with up to another 20% available for additional dividends and/or buybacks. Under the capital framework, growth must compete for capital against those additional distributions. Woodside targets US$400 million of annual structural cost reductions from 2028. It says Scarborough is 99% complete and on track for first LNG cargo this year, Trion is targeted for first oil in 2028 and Louisiana LNG is targeted for first LNG in 2029. With the base business, Woodside expects these projects to support sales volume growth of more than 30% to approximately 280 million barrels of oil equivalent in 2032, and to generate more than US$40 billion of adjusted operating cash flow from 2027 to 2032. It also set a 2035 net equity Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity target of 30% below a 2025 gross equity baseline of 33.3 kg CO₂-e/boe, with net intensity including carbon credits used to meet regulatory obligations.

These are targets and expectations that depend on assumptions in the attached presentation. The announcement text does not state the current return on average capital employed. A second Capital Markets Day is set for New York on 12 November 2026.
