About Guzman y Gomez (ASX:GYG)

Guzman y Gomez Limited is an ASX-listed quick service restaurant operator headquartered in Sydney. It runs and franchises Mexican-style restaurants selling burritos, tacos, bowls and quesadillas prepared to order, across drive thru, strip, shopping centre and delivery channels. Founded in Sydney in 2006, it operates restaurants in Australia, Singapore and Japan.

Guzman y Gomez (ASX:GYG) released its Q1 FY27 sales update to report network and comparable sales for the three months to 30 September 2026, and to confirm its FY27 guidance and its intention to extend its share buyback.

Network sales rose 18.8% on the prior corresponding period to $387.5 million from $326.3 million, with Australia contributing $363.0 million and Asia $24.5 million. Comp sales growth was 7.1%, against 4.0% in Q1 FY26, which the company says was underpinned by transaction growth, with growth broad across formats, channels, ownership types and dayparts. Three new restaurants opened in Australia, taking the Australian network to 258 restaurants (94 corporate and 164 franchise) and the total to 286, including 23 in Singapore and 5 in Japan. By quarter end, 40 restaurants were trading 24/7. GYG reaffirmed FY27 guidance of mid-single digit comp sales growth and underlying EBITDA of 6.7-6.9% of network sales, up from 6.2% in FY26. It expects to open 35 new restaurants in Australia in FY27, excluding the master franchise market of South Australia, with approximately 12 expected in Q2. The Board has approved a buyback extension of up to a further $100 million, and GYG intends to extend the program beyond its current end date of 23 October 2026.

The update covers sales only and gives no earnings, margin or cash figures for the quarter. The figures exclude discontinued US operations, and buyback timing and volume will depend on market conditions.
