The local market is set to open lower with ASX futures off by 0.1%. This comes as global equity markets ended mostly lower overnight as investors monitored the latest geopolitical developments after the US seized a Russian-flagged, Venezuela-linked oil tanker.
On Wall Street investor sentiment was tempered by underwhelming jobs data as job openings fell more than expected in November after rising marginally in October.
Gains in AI-related stocks boosted the Nasdaq, while a dip in banking stocks weighed on the Dow. Nvidia rose, but gains were capped after reports China urged firms to pause H200 AI chip purchases.
Oil prices have fallen as President Trump's plan to refine and sell Venezuelan crude oil raised concerns about the long-term impact of the US actions. The US dollar is little changed, whilst the Australian dollar is trading at US67.2c.
