the open: Sell America trade escalates 📉 Trump rattles markets

The local market is set to lose further ground today with ASX futures pointing lower by 0.6%. 

On Wall Street the S&P 500 and Nasdaq fell to their lowest levels in a month, as investors returned from the US long weekend and opted to take a risk-off stance in reaction to fresh tariff threats from President Trump. 

Netflix gained ahead of its quarterly results after switching to an all-cash offer for Warner Bros Discovery's studio and streaming assets without increasing its $82.7 billion bid. 

On the geopolitical front, US President Trump has said there's "no going back" on his goal to control Greenland, refusing to rule out taking the Arctic island by force. 

Gold has climbed to another record high on safe-haven demand, while silver also broke above $95 for the first time. The US dollar index is down 0.9% on the day, whilst the Australian dollar is trading at around US67.3 cents.
