The local market is set to extend recent gains with ASX futures up 0.2%.
Wall Street slipped as investors reacted to softer US inflation data. Among the mag 7 stocks, Amazon and Nvidia both weighed on the S&P 500, whilst Tesla edged up after CEO Elon Musk said that he regretted the negative social media posts that he made last week about Trump, as they had gone, “too far.”
US consumer prices increased less than expected at 0.1% in May, as cheaper fuel partially offset higher rents, with the annual consumer price index advancing 2.4%. However, inflation is expected to accelerate in the coming months because of the Trump administration’s import tariffs.
Oil prices have surged to their highest in more than two months on reports that the US is preparing to evacuate its embassy in Iraq due to heightened security concerns in the Middle East. Brent crude futures finished 4.34% higher at $70 a barrel.
Locally today, the RBA head of domestic markets department is set to give a speech, while the CBA releases household spending insights for May. And the ASX will hold an investor briefing whilst Champion iron trades ex-dividend.
