the open: ASX to climb, as Wall Street resets record highs

Company Interview22 Jul, 2025

The local market looks set to open modestly higher with ASX futures pointing up 11 points, as the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq notched record high closes amidst positive earnings results.

Shares in Google-parent, Alphabet rallied ahead of its quarterly report on Wednesday, meanwhile Tesla dipped ahead of its report, whilst Apple gained alongside Amazon.

Meanwhile, the EU is considering counter-measures against the United States as prospects for an acceptable trade agreement with Washington fade. Talks between the EU Trade Commissioner and US counterparts in Washington last week failed to achieve an agreement leading to the expectation that President Trump will follow through with his threat to impose a 30% tariff on EU exports by August 1st.

The US dollar index is down 0.6% while the euro has risen. And the Australian dollar climbed slightly, trading at US65.2c.
