The local market is set to open lower with ASX futures down around 26 points. Global equity markets began the week cautiously ahead of the Federal Reserve decision on interest rates.
Wall Street's main indexes slipped on Monday, with all but one S&P 500 industry sector in the red, while Treasury yields gained. Nvidia shares rose on reports that the US Commerce Department is preparing its H200 chip to be exported to China. Tesla proved to be a drag on the S&P 500, following Morgan Stanley's bearish view on the electric-vehicle maker.
US Treasury yields rose and the dollar gained against the Japanese yen following a strong earthquake in Japan. The magnitude 7.6 quake hit Japan's northeast region, prompting orders for about 90,000 residents to evacuate and tsunami warnings that hours later were downgraded to advisories.
Oil prices have slipped after Iraq restored production at one of its oilfields, while investors contemplated ongoing talks to end the war in Ukraine. The US dollar index is up 0.1% on the day, whilst the Australian dollar is trading lower around US66.3 cents.
