The S&P/ASX 200 retreated from record highs, hit by profit-taking as gold miners were sold off. The local index was 0.7% lower to 9,030 points this Wednesday.Gold prices suffered their steepest one-day fall in twelve years, sending Evolution Mining 10% lower, while Newmont slid by 8.8%.
Spot silver also dropped 7.6%, to US$48 per ounce. Locally, Unico Silver tumbled by 12.8%. Going the other way, Woodside advanced by 3.7% today as it lifted its 2025 production guidance, while reducing its production cost guidance.In other company news, Pinnacle Investment Management is getting bigger in Japan, buying up to 13-percent of Advantage Partners, the country’s largest independent private markets platform. The stock was up 2.4% today.And Atlas Arteria tracked 0.6% higher on a toll revenue rise over the past quarter. Tomorrow, BHP is holding its AGM, while Fortescue, Northern Star and Regis Resources are among the companies publishing quarterly reports.
