The S&P/ASX 200 followed global equity markets higher, rising for a second consecutive session during Tuesday's trade.

 

10 out of 11 sectors closed higher, with IT stocks powering ahead and energy stocks receiving a boost on the back of higher oil prices. The tech sector gained 1.6% while energy stocks rose 0.5%. 

 

BHP shares rose 0.7% as investors reacted to the appointmen of Brandon Craig as its next CEO, he'll replace Mike Henry from July. Meanwhile, Woodside Energy confirmed Liz Westcott as CEO. Westcott been serving in the role on an interim basis since December. WDS shares gained 0.1%. 

 

Meanwhile, CSL shed 2.2% after as it faces a temporary global shortage of its gene therapy, Hemgenix.

 

Heading the other way, metals recycler Sims was on track for its best day in over four years on a FY26 earnings outlook upgrade, as strong non-ferrous metal prices and memory chip markets boost earnings.

 

All eyes now turn to the US, with the Federal Reserve to hand down its cash rate decision overnight. The Fed is expected to hold rates amid the uncertain inflationary environment.
