James's market movers: from power to profit

Company Interview29 Oct, 2025

Key points:

$80bn US nuclear plan boosts Cameco and ASX uranium stocks including Paladin and Boss Energy Boss Energy (ASX:BOE) sees highest-ever production, review underway for Honeymoon project SiteMinder (ASX:SDR) maintains strong growth trajectory and confirms guidance CSL (ASX:CSL) faces short-term challenges post AGM but remains a portfolio hold Arafura Rare Earths (ASX:ARU) launches significant capital raise to progress Nolans project

James Gerrish from Market Matters highlights substantial movements in the uranium sector after news of the Trump administration aiming to allocate $80 billion toward nuclear reactor construction in the United States. Gerrish points to Westinghouse Electric, 49% owned by Cameco, as a major beneficiary, noting Cameco’s share price surged nearly 24%. He suggests the project—which aims to support the power demand from artificial intelligence—could significantly increase demand for uranium. Locally, uranium stocks such as Paladin (ASX:PDN) are reportedly up around 12-13%, with Boss Energy (ASX:BOE) also seeing gains following record production numbers despite recent challenges at its Honeymoon project.

Boss Energy’s recent quarterly report recorded its highest-ever drum production. Gerrish notes the company is undergoing an independent review of its South Australian Honeymoon project, with initial findings expected in the December quarter. He indicates strong uranium prices may help offset higher project costs and sees Boss Energy as a potential value turnaround for risk-tolerant investors.

Turning to other sectors, Gerrish states SiteMinder (ASX:SDR) reconfirmed its full-year guidance, reflecting successful global scaling across more than 40,000 hotels. He also comments on CSL (ASX:CSL), noting broker downgrades after its AGM and observing ongoing short-term headwinds, yet maintains it remains a buy at current levels. Arafura Rare Earths' (ASX:ARU) capital raise and funding outlook for the Nolans project also attracted attention amidst sector volatility.
