The S&P/ASX 200 reached an intraday record high of 9,013, passing the 9,000 points mark for the first time ever. A modest afternoon pull-back sent the market to 9019.10 points, up 1.1% from the day prior - still a record high.
Brambles shares rose 13.2%, lifting the overall industtrial sector, after lifting its full year profit by 10% and announcing a US$400 million share buyback.Northern Star Resources gained 0.5% as it boosted its dividend, off the back of higher gold prices which pushed its profit to a record.Codan hit record high on strong FY results, and the stock advanced by 10.7%. Similarly, Super Retail hit a record high after a strong start to FY26.CSL benefited from some opportunity-buying, while James Hardie's share price continued to decline, a further 9.4% this Thursday. Elsewhere, Goodman Group said it was targeting 9% earnings growth in FY26. This sent the stock price higher in early trade, before a turnaround leaving the share price 1.4% lower. In the US, the Jackson Hole symposium kicks off later Thursday. Tomorrow locally, Zip, Ingham’s and Helia are among companies reporting results.
