Its shareholder register is weighted towards retail investors and self-managed superannuation funds.
Argo (ASX:ARG) Investments reported profit of $260.2 million for the financial year ended 30 June 2026, up from $259.8 million, with earnings per share of 34.3 cents compared with 34.1 cents. The Board declared a fully franked final dividend of 20.0 cents per share which, with the interim dividend of 18.5 cents per share, takes full-year dividends to 38.5 cents per share fully franked, up from 37.0 cents and described by the company as a record high. Argo said this represents a grossed-up annual yield of 6.0% including franking, based on its last closing share price. The final dividend includes a listed investment company capital gain component of 5.0 cents per share, compared with 7.0 cents a year earlier, and Argo noted that this component is unaffected by the recent changes to Australia's capital gains tax regime. Net tangible assets per share finished the year at $10.84, which the company described as a record high, up from $10.43, and the management expense ratio was 0.14% against 0.15%.
Argo's full-year return based on net tangible assets after all costs and adjusted for company tax paid was +8.7%, against a +6.1% rise in the S&P/ASX 200 Accumulation Index, which the company noted is measured without allowing for any costs; Argo said the outperformance generated approximately $200 million in additional value for the portfolio. Second-half NTA performance gained +7.1% while the index rose +2.4%. The company identified its positions in Rio Tinto, Macquarie Group and Lynas Rare Earths as the biggest positive contributors, along with an underweight exposure to Commonwealth Bank, while Technology One detracted. During the year Argo purchased $267.1 million of investments and received $368.2 million from sales of investments. The Board has determined that, commencing in January 2027, dividends will be paid quarterly instead of twice annually, and it intends to declare four quarterly dividends of 10.0 cents per share fully franked next year, totalling 40.0 cents per share.
