The Australian share market shook off its recent run of losses to finish Thursday in the green at 9083.8, a gain of 0.33%.
Investor sentiment was buoyed by the US Treasury intervention in the bond market and local earnings results.
The gold miners followed the bullion price higher with Northern Star up 6.2% after reporting a 19% increase in revenue to $7.6 billion.
Fortescue shares fell 0.61% after reporting a 15% slide in its full-year profit.
The healthcare sector extended its rally, led by CSL which rose another 2.8%. Telix Pharmaceuticals rose 3.2% on a lift in first-half net profit, but Sonic Healthcare slumped 9.3% despite posting an 18% increase in net profit.
And Medibank Private tumbled 6.3% on slowing membership growth.
Goodman Group's full-year operating profit rose yet it shares lost 1.5%.
Logistics group Brambles fell 3.4%, despite lifting its final dividend and profit.
Super Retail Group surged over 15%on an earnings beat, while fellow retailer Universal Store was also up 17.7% on positive sales momentum.
The Aussie dollar fell following July's jobs data, which showed the unemployment rate rose to an almost 5 year high of 4.5% and the economy lost jobs over the month.
