The Australian market is set to open weaker this morning, with ASX futures down 25 points or 0.3%, tracking Wall Street’s decline on Friday. US equities slid as investors digested inflation data showing tariffs starting to feed into prices, with tech and AI names under pressure. The Dow Jones lost 92 points or 0.2%, the S&P 500 fell 0.6%, and the Nasdaq dropped 1.2% as Dell, Nvidia and Marvell Technology all sold off sharply. Commodities were mixed: Brent crude slipped 0.7% to US$68.12 a barrel and Nymex shed 0.9% to US$64.01, while gold futures rallied 1.2% to US$3,516 an ounce, posting their best monthly performance since April. Iron ore edged up to US$101.81 a tonne, supported by steady Chinese demand, and copper hit a five-week high. Bond yields diverged, with the US 10-year rising to 4.23% as the two-year eased to 3.62%. Meanwhile, the Aussie dollar firmed to US65.40c against the greenback.Ahead today, home price data is released along with building approvals.
