the open: ASX to slip after mixed Wall Street session

Company Interview18 Aug, 2025

The local market is set to begin the week negatively with ASX futures off by 0.6%. This comes after a mixed session on Wall Street, in which the Dow ended higher after hitting an intraday record high, but the S&P 500 and Nasdaq slipped as mixed data clouded the Federal Reserve's next monetary policy move.

Global stocks traded near record highs on Friday ahead of talks between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. European shares rose before pulling back with investors encouraged by positive earnings.

President Donald Trump has said he will announce more tariffs in the coming weeks, saying, "I'll be setting tariffs next week and the week after on steel and on, I would say, chips.”

The US dollar slipped whilst the Australian dollar climbed slightly, currently trading at US65.1c.
