the open: ASX to dip whilst S&P clears 6500

Company Interview29 Aug, 2025

The local market is set to open lower with ASX futures down 0.4%. This comes despite a strong session on Wall Street, in which the S&P 500 and Dow Jones notched new record highs.

Nvidia's earnings results and outlook continued to reverberate through the market. Shares of Nvidia dipped after US-China trade uncertainties weighed on the stock. However, CEO Jensen Huang has dismissed concerns about an end to a spending boom on AI saying, "We see $3 trillion to $4 trillion in AI infrastructure spending by the end of the decade."

Meanwhile, Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook is suing President Trump, claiming he has no power to remove her from office. If she was to be removed, her departure would allow President Trump to name an ally to the Fed's seven-member board as he agitates for interest rates to be cut. The US dollar index is down 0.4%, whilst the Australian dollar has climbed to US65.3 cents.

On the last day on the earnings calendar results are expected from Austal, Cettire, NextDC, PEXA, Steadfast and Virgin Australia.
