the open: ASX set to rally as Trump pauses Iran strikes

Company Interview19 May, 2026

The local market is set to rally at the open with ASX futures up 1.1%.

Global equity markets came under pressure on Monday as oil prices rose and after longer-dated U.S. Treasury yields had climbed to their highest level in more than a year.

However, bond markets found support which stemmed the losses among equities.

Investors were further buoyed late in the session on Wall Street when President Trump said he was holding off on a planned military attack on Iran scheduled for today as efforts continue to reach a deal.

The Nasdaq and the benchmark S&P 500 closed lower as investors took some profits in tech stocks.

Oil prices climbed to a two-week high over supply disruption fears.

On the corporate calendar TechnologyOne will report results, Paladin and Westgold provide quarterly updates and EOS holds its AGM.

And Reserve Bank assistant governor Sarah Hunter is due to speak, while the minutes from the latest RBA last policy meeting will be released.
