The local market is set to open marginally lower with ASX futures down 0.1%. This comes as global stocks slid to begin the week with little market moving news to trade on.
On Wall Street, shares were lower overall, paced by the energy sector and lingering tech weakness. Shares of chipmaker Nvidia rose as it unveiled a new family of open-source AI models that it says will be faster, cheaper and smarter than its previous offerings. Tesla gained after CEO Elon Musk said it was testing its robotaxis without safety monitors in the front passenger seat.
In the latest US economic data the Empire State manufacturing survey index fell into contraction while the homebuilder sentiment survey index rose to an eight-month high, benefiting from the drop in mortgage rates. In the latest Fed speech, John Williams said monetary policy is well positioned for 2026, "The FOMC has moved the modestly restrictive stance of monetary policy toward neutral.”
Bitcoin fell to a two week low, dropping below $86,000. Meanwhile, the US dollar index has edged lower, and the Australian dollar is trading at US66.4 cents.
