Steve Bray from Verkada outlines how the company’s cloud-based physical security platform aims to transform traditional cameras, access control, intercoms, alarms and environmental sensors into a unified, AI-enabled system accessible from anywhere. Bray states that Verkada now serves more than 30,000 customers globally, with Australia a key growth region. Over the past 12 months, ANZ customers on the platform increase by around 30%, and revenue in the ANZ market rises about 95%, in Bray’s view, reflecting strong traction across education, healthcare, aged care, retail, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.

Bray argues that many organisations move from legacy, reactive security to proactive, AI-driven use cases. Retailers reportedly use the platform to understand foot traffic and optimise merchandising, aged care providers to help prevent dementia patients from wandering, and schools to lock down buildings and protect students. Manufacturing and warehousing clients, Bray says, use computer vision to check high-vis vests and hard hats and keep staff away from high-risk forklift and truck zones, aiming to improve safety and operational efficiency.

Detailing innovation showcased at Verkada One, Bray highlights “Unified Timeline”, which visually maps the movement of people or vehicles across facilities in minutes, AI-driven intercoms that route calls by name and support multiple languages, and AI-powered alerts for slip-and-fall incidents, fence climbing, fighting and PPE compliance. With offices already in Japan and Korea and customers across ASEAN, Bray maintains that Verkada is only scratching the surface of what AI can deliver for physical security and community safety.
