Stocks for a market that's neither here nor there

Company Interview28 Oct, 2024

Michael Gable from Fairmont Equities shared insights on the ASX 200 and various market trends. He highlighted that the ASX 200 continues to trend upward with low volatility, showing no significant danger signs at the moment. Gable emphasised that while risks like the US election loom, markets have shown resilience, defying earlier expectations of weakness.

On gold, Gable noted that despite more bullish sentiments, the metal continues to trade well, and any dips may present buying opportunities for gold stocks. He also discussed the US dollar's strong performance over the past few weeks and how its gains have impacted commodity stocks, particularly BHP (ASX: BHP) and Fortescue (ASX: FMG). However, Gable pointed out that the US dollar might face resistance soon, which could act as a tailwind for commodities.

Moving on to banks, Gable expressed optimism about ANZ (ASX: ANZ) and Commonwealth Bank (ASX: CBA), noting that both are testing resistance levels, and a breakout could lead to further gains. He also sees growth opportunities in tech stocks, particularly Xero (ASX: XRO), which has been trending higher and appears poised for continued growth.
