A positive start for the local sharemarket was quickly reversed following the release of July’s CPI data. While inflation eased to 3.5% from June’s 3.8% reading, it remained higher than analysts had anticipated.
Across the session, the S&P/ASX200 shed 0.4% to close down at 9127.80 points.
Woolworths headlined earnings this Thursday, reporting an 18% rise in full year profit to $1.14b. The supermarket giant climbed 3.4% over the day with momentum expected to carry across in FY27.
Markets weren’t as kind to WiseTech Global, which plunged 10.1% following an 11% decline in net profit to just over US $200m.
Domino’s Pizza also erased earlier gains from the week, sliding 6.4% with like-for-like sales down 5.8% to start the new financial year.
Netwealth followed suit with net profit down 48% to $51m following significant expenses tied to the First Guardian Master Fund collapse.
Other results investors were watching today included Droneshield which posted a loss of $12.4m along with Worley which saw statutory net profit drop 35%.
Tonight, crucial Nvidia earnings out of the States take the spotlight.
