Peter is bullish on global equities

Company Interview26 Jun, 2026

Key points:

Strong optimism on AI‑linked US tech names such as Qualcomm ($QCOM) and Micron ($MU) Expects WTI crude to trend towards US$60, potentially with a “five handle”, easing inflation pressures Views Japan’s Nikkei 225 as a continuing outperformer, while warning of yen intervention risk

Peter McGuire from Trading.com outlines a bullish medium‑ to long‑term view on global equities, particularly across technology and Asia, alongside a notably bearish stance on crude oil prices. McGuire points to strong recent moves in US tech, highlighting Qualcomm ($QCOM) and Micron (NASDAQ:MU), and the scale of AI‑driven data centre investment, which he estimates at around three‑quarters of a trillion US dollars. In his view, investors are increasingly focused on a two‑ to ten‑year earnings growth window, and current valuations in AI‑linked names still appear attractive.

On commodities, McGuire cites the de‑escalation in Iran and increased shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as key drivers of a sharp pull‑back in oil. He notes WTI has fallen from around US$109 to the low US$70s and suggests US$60 a barrel could be achievable by July or early August, with some traders even eyeing a “five handle”. He expects further downside pressure on Brent and WTI, which he regards as positive for consumers and inflation.

Regionally, McGuire highlights Japan and South Korea as standout performers. He notes the Nikkei 225 has recently hit an all‑time high and suggests 75,000 is achievable within a month, while also flagging potential Japanese currency intervention risk around the 162 yen level versus the US dollar.
