Michael Quinert, executive chairman of West Wits Mining (ASX: WWI), outlines how the company has crossed from explorer to gold producer at its Qala Shallows project on South Africa's Witwatersrand Basin. Quinert states that West Wits has begun underground ore production and describes the operation as one of the first new gold mines to open in the region, a milestone he views as validating years of development work.

Quinert explains that the completion of the decline has opened access to higher-grade ore, which he says should lift production quality as the mine ramps up. He points to a strengthened balance sheet and says the company is targeting a steady increase in output through 2026, with an initial goal of more than 70,000 ounces per annum and a longer-term pathway toward 200,000 ounces as additional mining areas are brought online.

Looking ahead, Quinert says 2026 milestones include ramping up mining at Qala Shallows, delivering a draft study on the expanded operation, and continuing to fund development through a mix of production cash flow and finance rather than relying solely on equity. He adds that West Wits Mining (ASX:WWI) remains focused on converting its large resource base into sustained production against a strong gold-price backdrop.
