The S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.37% to 8,697.10 points on Monday, as investors worried about the growth outlook ahead of the RBA’s rate decision tomorrow.
Sector-wise, energy was lower after US President Trump said he was willing to have the US army escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Woodside Energy dropped 2.75%, while Viva Energy fell 2.8% despite saying it has sufficient fuel stocks to maintain normal supply during repairs to its Geelong refinery, which are expected to take about six weeks.
Consumer staples were also weaker, with Coles and Woolworths down on margin pressure fears.
The tech sector fared better, with Xero rallying 2.9% after announcing price increases that Citi said should improve earnings.
In company news, NAB hit a near nine-month low after missing interim profit estimates and flagging charges tied to software changes.
Accent Group fell 13.6% to a six-year low after cutting FY26 profit guidance and facing an ASIC investigation. Meanwhile a2 Milk slipped 10.2% after US infant formulas were recalled.
Tonight, investors will watch US earnings from Palantir and ON Semiconductor, but local attention is firmly on the RBA’s decision tomorrow.
