Key points:

CTVL turns standard CT scans into functional lung maps, showing airflow and blood flow 4DMedical (ASX:4DX) targets an initial US market of ~1 million VQ scans a year at US$650 each Philips partnership provides access to 20–30% of US hospitals and 250 dedicated sales staff Capital raise leaves around $280 million to fund US, European expansion and product upgrades Nuclear medicine seen reallocating low‑value VQ scans to radiology to focus on higher‑value work

4DMedical’s (ASX: 4DX) lung imaging ambitions expand as adoption builds in US hospitals. Itsfounder and CEO, Dr Andreas Fouras, outlines how the company’s CTVL software converts a standard CT scan into a functional lung map, tracking airflow and blood flow without injections. Fouras states that CTVL is currently the only FDA‑approved technology of its kind and is already being evaluated by major US centres such as Stanford, UCSD and the Mayo Clinic. He views CTVL as a powerful tool for radiologists and surgeons, improving diagnostic precision while fitting seamlessly into existing CT workflows.

Fouras reports 4DMedical (ASX:4DX) has grown from 301 to 436 sites in one half, with scans more than doubling. He estimates an initial addressable market of around one million VQ scans a year in the US alone, at a reimbursement rate of about US$650 per scan, seeing this as a US$650 million annual software‑margin opportunity. With approximately $280 million in cash following a $233 million capital raise, Fouras argues the business can fund its current rollout and future product iterations that could expand volumes to six million scans a year.

Partnership with Philips is viewed as critical to scale, with Philips’ software present in an estimated 20–30% of US hospitals and 250 salespeople allocated to 4DMedical products. Fouras highlights strong prospects in Europe for diversification and influence with global clinical key opinion leaders. He also sees nuclear medicine departments as beneficiaries, able to shift low‑value VQ work to radiology and focus on higher‑value diagnostics.
