GE HealthCare has completed its US$2.3 billion acquisition of Intelerad, which Leon Berkovich frames as a pivotal step in shifting from a pure imaging leader to a fully integrated healthcare technology company. Berkovich says the deal accelerates GE HealthCare’s D3 strategy – devices, across disease states, that are digitally enabled and integrated – with AI used to surface richer diagnostic data for clinicians across the care pathway.

Berkovich highlights rapid progress since closing the acquisition in March, noting global teams were aligning product road maps within 30 days. AI is described as a core capability, with GE HealthCare repeatedly leading the US Food and Drug Administration’s list of AI-enabled medical imaging devices. Berkovich argues that software-led development allows much faster iteration than hardware, enabling continuous enhancement of enterprise platforms and workflow tools.

In Australia, Berkovich estimates Intelerad technology already touches around 90% of private-sector imaging studies, with a clear mandate to grow rather than strip back the business. The goal is to boost productivity and workflow efficiency so clinicians can see more patients, cut scan times – for example, MRI scans compressing from 30 minutes to under 10 – and improve patient access and experience amid mounting cost and capacity pressures on healthcare systems.
