Earnings results from among the largest listed companies drove the local share market on Tuesday. The S&P/ASX 200 Index closed flat, declining 0.04% to finish at 9070.
Index heavyweight BHP rose 3% on a 30% increase in underlying profit, boosted by booming copper prices.
But it was the healthcare sector that outperformed, adding 7.9% with CSL surging 17.3% after forecasting a return to underlying earnings growth this year after reporting a near $3.7 billion annual loss.
Another beaten down healthcare stock, Cochlear, jumped 7.6% after posting a 22% fall in full-year underlying net profit, which was at the top end of guidance.
And Pro Medicus rose 11.9% after the medical imaging software company's full-year revenue jumped 23%.
The big four lenders dragged the financial sector lower, however Judo Capital rallied nearly 17% after it full-year net profit surged.
Wealth management platform HUB24 lost 7.3%, despite beating analyst expectations, while Challenger was up 6.5% after announcing a $450 million buyback.
Reliance Worldwide surged nearly 25% after Brookfield Capital Partners upped its offer for the plumbing company.
And explorer Ausgold jumped over 24% after agreeing to a takeover by Canada’s OceanaGold.
Tomorrow, Amcor, Mirvac and Santos are among the companies reporting.
