Key Points:
Long-term collaboration with Sonic Healthcare to validate and launch BCAL’s breast test in the US Expansion from single breast test to a broader oncology blood test portfolio, including ovarian, pancreatic and planned multi-cancer test Digital integration with major Australian GP and specialist software platforms to streamline referrals Strong focus on reimbursement and lowering test costs over time to improve accessibility
BCAL Diagnostics (ASX:BDX) is, in executive chair Jayne Shaw’s view, entering a key commercial phase as it advances its breast and multi-cancer blood test portfolio. Jayne Shaw states that BCAL has been developing a blood test to rule out breast cancer for 15 years, launching the first version in Sydney last year, with a second-generation test targeted for September. Shaw highlights a long-standing collaboration with Sonic Healthcare, now extending to the US where Sonic, described as the third-largest pathology provider, is set to undertake external validation and support market entry and reimbursement pathways.
Shaw outlines a broader oncology diagnostics platform, including blood tests for ovarian and pancreatic cancer via a partnership with ClearNote Health, and a planned multi‑cancer blood test covering eight cancers later this year. In Australia, BCAL’s tests are accessible through the EarlyDetection.com portal, integrated with MedicalDirector, Best Practice and Genie Solutions, which Shaw views as crucial digital infrastructure to scale referrals from GPs and specialists.
On funding, Shaw describes BCAL as having a solid balance sheet, with cash visibility into March–April next year, but stresses that reimbursement is critical. Current pricing is cited at about $1,400 for pancreatic and ovarian tests and $300 for the breast test, with a long‑term aim to materially reduce costs through technology transfer and scale.
