Argenica's trial success opens door to next phase in stroke treatment

Company Interview27 Apr, 2026

Key points:

ARG-007 phase 2 trial said to meet primary safety endpoint in stroke patients Strong efficacy signal claimed in moderate to severe stroke subgroup, including walking outcomes Plans for phase 2b stroke trial and traumatic brain injury study in Australia Active engagement with large and mid-tier pharma on potential licensing and partnering strategies

Liz Dallimore, CEO and MD of Argenica Therapeutics (ASX:AGN) outlines how the company’s lead candidate, ARG-007, is progressing through clinical development for stroke and brain injury treatment. The phase 2 trial is said to meet its primary safety endpoint, which Dallimore describes as a crucial “go/no go” hurdle in neurology, and is presented as well tolerated in stroke patients. While the overall trial does not show a reduction in infarct volume across all patients, she points to a clear efficacy signal in a subgroup of moderate to severe stroke patients.

Dallimore states that in these more severe cases, ARG-007 appears to halt the expansion of brain injury, aligning with the drug’s proposed mechanism of neuroprotection. She cites statistically significant differences in both infarct progression and the proportion of patients able to walk independently, which she regards as highly encouraging for future functional outcome data and long-term quality-of-life measures.

Looking ahead, Dallimore highlights key 2026 milestones including progressing a phase 2b stroke trial under an Investigational New Drug application with the FDA, opening US and Australian sites, scaling up commercial manufacturing, and initiating a traumatic brain injury trial in Australia. She also notes ongoing talks with large and mid-tier pharma groups, a relatively low cash burn, and strong support from core shareholders as critical supports for the company’s next phase.
